GROUP A

Real Betis made a real statement of intent in a tricky-looking group after chalking up three wins and a draw. One of the Sevillians’ triumphs came over Real Madrid, who finished as group runners-up after registering two wins, a draw and one defeat. The Verdiblancos will lock horns with CA Osasuna in the last 16, whilst the Merengues will pit their wits against Valencia CF. The other side to progress were Getafe CF, whose two draws were enough to secure third spot and a match-up against Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, it is the end of the road for D. Alaves, who finished bottom of the pile.

GROUP B

This group proved to be extremely tightly contested, with Atletico Madrid ultimately landing top spot after claiming two wins and draws apiece. The Rojiblancos had to settle for a point in their meeting with Valencia CF, who nicked a last-gasp leveller in a thrilling 2-2 stalemate en route to claiming third place. The Madrilenians will do battle with Elche in the round of 16, whilst the Valencians go head-to-head with Real Madrid in one of Spanish football’s most iconic fixtures. Granada CF took second place after edging Los Che out by a single point. The Andalusians will meet Getafe CF in the next round, whilst RCD Mallorca failed to advance past the group stage after collecting a point from their games.

GROUP C

The two Catalan sides proved to be the standout performers in Group C, with FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol tied on eight points at the summit. The Azulgranas, who will face off against Cadiz CF, bagged top spot thanks to their superior goal difference (+7), whilst the Pericos will be aiming to get the better of Athletic Club. The Catalan sides contested a thrilling derby that ultimately ended goalless. The other two teams to progress were Rayo Vallecano and RC Celta, who will go up against Sevilla FC and Villarreal CF respectively in the last 16. Levante UD bowed out at the group stage.

GROUP D

There was also a tie at the top of this group, with Villarreal CF and Sevilla both collecting eight points. The tournament hosts will entertain Celta, whilst the Andalusians will take on Rayo Vallecano for a spot in the last eight. Athletic and Cadiz also did enough to seal a place in the next round. The Bilbao-based outfit will be hoping they have enough to oust Espanyol, whilst the Amarillos will be out to topple FC Barcelona. Real Sociedad’s tournament campaign is over after they finished bottom of the group.
